Katherine G. Uffer ’23, ’24 (M.S.) Named Graduate Valedictorian At Manhattan College

A Masters in Computer Science Recipient, Katherine Uffer will be the 2024 Commencement Graduate Student Speaker on May 17, 2024.

Manhattan College today announced that Katherine G. Uffer will be the College’s Graduate School Valedictorian for the class of 2024. She will be the student speaker at the May 17 ceremony to be held at the College campus.

photo of Katherine UfferUffer, a native of Toms River, NJ has a family legacy at the College. Her grandfather was a physics instructor at Manhattan College and her father was a graduate of the College’s Engineering School with a major in Mechanical Engineering. Ms. Uffer is a graduate of Donovan Catholic High School in Toms River and exhibited an interest in computers dating back to her adolescent years where she showed a keen interest in the family PC. Continuing her interest in the field in high school, a special teacher, Helga Paggi, encouraged Uffer’s interests in math, computer science, and robotics.

Upon high school graduation, Uffer attended Manhattan College as an undergraduate majoring in Computer Science and minoring in Digital Media Art. At the completion of her undergraduate degree in 2023, she continued on for her masters, completing the degree in one year. Since May of 2023, she also works at Persistent Systems LLC in Manhattan where she is responsible for ensuring that MPU5 audio products meet customer and management requirements. In the summer of 2022, she worked as an intern at the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) in Lakehurst, NJ where she configured, tested, and troubleshot Aircraft Launch and Recovery Equipment networking hardware and supporting equipment in multiple lab environments.

I am certain that Kate will continue her amazing accomplishments as she continues in her computer science career.”

Ms. Uffer has been elected to Phi Beta Kappa honor society; worked at the Manhattan College Radio station, WRCM, serving as webmaster, general manager, and show host; and was involved in the Manhattan College Jazz Band and Manhattan College Singers. She looks forward to continuing her working career at Persistent Systems LLC after a summer of relaxation.
