New York City – Manhattan College’s Near Neighbor

One of the great advantages of attending Manhattan is its proximity to New York City. Although nestled in the suburbs, Manhattan College is a stone’s throw away from one of the finest classrooms in the world. Just a half-hour from our bucolic campus lie New York City’s vast attractions, offering a wealth of first-hand learning opportunities and enjoyment.

While classroom study gives you the basics, the works of the great masters really come to life when you can visit them up close and personal at the Metropolitan Museum, the Guggenheim, the Museum of Modern Art and countless other galleries and museums that the city is home to.

What better way to appreciate music than by attending a live performance. It’s only a half-hour away from our College to Carnegie Hall, the Metropolitan Opera, Lincoln Center, Madison Square Garden, and countless venues and clubs for rock concerts, sporting events and other great attractions.

The great and varied architecture that defines Manhattan’s skyline offers endless possibilities for those who study engineering and architecture. Students from all over the world travel to the city to visit the buildings of such greats as I.M. Pei, Mies Van der Rohe, and Frank Lloyd Wright, and to view the magnificent art deco of Rockefeller Center and the elegant and unique structures of the Victorian and flatiron ages.

The city’s great engineering marvels offer a world of learning for students in all disciplines and for those who simply admire the work of our great builders, past and present.

John Roebling’s fabled Brooklyn Bridge, Olmstead’s Central Park, the highways, tunnels and bridges that were the legacy of master builder Robert Moses, and the entire city infrastructure all form the basis for first-hand learning experiences.

Science students have the opportunity to visit and learn from the top medical centers in the US, from the botanical gardens and zoological parks housed in the city, from the natural history and science museums, and from the new Rose Center for Earth and Space. Many of the world’s leading pharmaceutical firms are located in the Big Apple. In addition to serving as sources for study, prospects are more readily available for careers in a chosen discipline.

New York City is the business capital of the world. For Business students, it is the premiere learning environment, the place where things are happening – from Madison Avenue to Wall Street. It is also the place where so many Jasper alumni have made their marks, with the good possibility of internships and counseling to fellow alumni.

While tourists come from great distances to visit our city, Manhattan students have the best of both worlds – living and studying in a close-knit suburban community yet so close to the diversity, the multicultural flavor, and the wonderful attractions of New York.
