Lambda Pi Eta – Psi Beta Chapter

The communication honor society Lambda Pi Eta (LPH) was founded in 1985 at the University of Arkansas, and now has over 400 active chapters at four-year colleges and universities worldwide.  LPH became a part of the National Communication Association (NCA) in 1988, and became the official honor society of the NCA in July 1995.

The Psi Beta Chapter of LPH was established at Manhattan College in 2008.

The goals of LPH include: recognizing, fostering and rewarding outstanding scholastic achievement in communication studies; stimulating interest in the field of communication; promoting and encouraging professional development among communication majors; providing an opportunity to discuss and exchange ideas in the field of communication; establishing and maintaining closer relationships between faculty and students; and exploring options for graduate education in communication studies.

To be eligible for membership in the Psi Beta chapter of LPH, students must have junior status with a minimum of 60 credits earned, a 3.0 GPA overall, and a 3.5 GPA in the communication major with at least 12 credits earned.

In addition, the Psi Beta Chapter is an active chapter of LPH.  As such, members are expected to take on a leadership role and participate in our chapter’s community service initiatives and social events.

American Advertising Federation

The Manhattan College American Advertising Federation Chapter (AAF) is a student-run group that is professionally affiliated with the national AAF.  The chapter focuses on connecting professional advertising and marketing issues and information to students’ learning experience, and hosts events throughout the year including industry-related speakers, tours of agencies, and trips to professional advertising and marketing events in and around New York City.  In addition, the Chapter and the AAF offer scholarship and internship opportunities, industry mentors, networking opportunities, and an advertising honor society, Alpha Delta Sigma.

The Quadrangle

The Quadrangle is the official student newspaper of Manhattan College, dating back to 1924.  This extra-curricular club, which is open to all students at the College, provides students interested in careers in journalism with the opportunity to hone their skills as reporters, writers, editors, photographers, and layout and design artists.  Students can also serve a leadership role on the newspaper’s editorial board.

MCtv

Manhattan College Television, Channel 37 on the College’s cable television system, operates as a student-run television station.  The MCtv student club both programs the channel and produces programming for it.  The club is open to all students at the College, but provides students interested in careers in broadcasting / telecommunications with further opportunities to practice their skills as producers, writers, directors, videographers, editors, and talent.

WRCM

WRCM is the Manhattan College radio station and student radio club.  The club is open to all students at the College, but provides students interested in careers in broadcasting/telecommunications with the opportunity to develop their skills as on-air talent for music, sports, and news radio, as engineers and board operators, as programmers, and in radio promotions.
