Sigma Iota Rho, the national honor society for students of international studies was established in 1987 in Washington. The Manhattan College chapter (the Beta Eta Chapter) was inaugurated in 1999. The purpose of the organization is to honor students who have shown outstanding achievement in the international studies major and to foster active interest and participation in world affairs.
To be eligible, students must have junior standing with a minimum of fifteen credits in the international studies major. Students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 and an average of 3.5 in the international studies major or minor. Students must also demonstrate a proficiency in a modern foreign language.
