School of ArtsModern Foreign Languages DepartmentForeign Language Proficiency Certificates:The Department of Modern Foreign Languages awards a certificate in foreign language proficiency based on demonstrated ability to comprehend and speak a foreign language. In order to qualify for this certificate, a student must take a minimum of six credits at or above the 300 level and secure a grade of B or better. When the students is in his or her senior year, an oral proficiency test will be administered and scored. If the student scores in the Intermediate-Mid range or above on the proficiency scale of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, then the certification will be awarded. These certificates are recorded in the student's transcript and may be cited by students in their resume as proof to prospective employers of their oral proficiency in a second language.
