“Struggling for Independence and Religious Freedom in Tibet: One Man's Story”  Palden Gyatso, a Tibetan monk imprisoned for 33 years by the Chinese Government, tells his story, and the story of the Tibetan people’s fight for religious freedom and national independence. This lecture is co-sponsored by the Religious Studies Department, and is the Aquinas Lecture for 1999-2000. 7:30 p.m., Plato’s Annex, Thomas Hall, Manhattan College

Honors Symposium on Perception.Five students will speak, including Jason Arikian, a graduating Peace Studies major, will speak on the differing perspectives of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Veterans for Peace. 4:40 –5:40 p.m., in Plato’s Annex, Thomas Hall, MC.

Prayer Service for Peace, at 12:15 by the Peace Tree in front of Thomas Hall, MC.

“Jubilee 2000: Break the Chains of Third World Debt.” Seydina Senghor, co-founder of Jubilee 2000, will speak about the devastating poverty that results from third world debt, and the importance of using the Jubilee Year as a year to forgive unpayable debts and help poor countries invest in their futures. 4:00-5:30 p.m., Rodriguez Room, Miguel Hall 311, MC.

“Removing Landmines in Cambodia: How Can We Help?” Slide presentation and discussion, Peter Davies, Riverdale UN Association. 7:00 p.m. Place TBA.

Thursday, March 30 "Why do we kill?" The Core Symposium. Faculty from different disciplines will discuss this topic. 4:00 –6:00 p.m., Smith Auditorium.

ALL WEEK: How can we raise money to clear landmines from a field in Cambodia?

Children’s Art Exhibit, and an Information Table on Peace issues in Crossroads, in CMSV Administration Building.

Peace for a Change collection to suppport Pax Christi, at various locations around CMSV.

Other professors will be dealing with peace and justice issues in their classes, including Dr. Tracey Niemotko, who will be discussing Ethics in  the Corporate World in her Business and Accounting Classes.
