The following is the schedule of events celebrating both Peace Week and International Understanding Week:

Monday, April 19

    "Human Rights After the Holocaust" Benjamin Ferencz, a Nuremberg
    prosecutor (cosponsor: Holocaust Resource Center).
    Time: 4pm in Plato's Annex
    Activities during the day, some of which may be continued during the rest
    of the week:
        Exhibit of Martin Spett's paintings.
        Peace Week across the curriculum: commitment by faculty to address
        issues of Human Rights during Peace Week.
        Peace Camp for Jonas Bronck students.

Tuesday, April 20

     "Moral Courage in the Face of Moral Evil." Hugh Thompson:  Mr.
    Thompson was the helicopter pilot who stopped the My-Lai massacre by
    ordering his gunner to fire on American troops if they kept killing civilians.
    Time: 4pm, Smith Auditorium

    "Post-Holocaust/Premillenium: Holocaust denial, the Internet and
    Anti-Semitism. How do we combat these challenges?" Mark
    Weitzman, Director of the New York Office, Simon Wiesenthal Foundation.
        Time: 7:30 pm in Smith Auditorium.
    Activities begining today:
        UN Program: The Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Wednesday, April 21

    "The Camden 28" John Peter O'Grady, M'49. Member of the Camden 28.
    Presentation by O'Grady and Ed McGowan (author of a book on the Camden
    28, to be published in the spring of 1999).
        Time: 4:00 pm in Plato's Annex.

Amnesty International Writing Campaign during lunchtime - Thomas Hall
    Alternative Career Fair: During the Activities Period in Smith Auditorium.
    Highlighting careers in the NGO sector, volunteer organizations, social work,
    union organizing.

Human Rights Vigil in Quad in conjunction with Campus Ministry
    (8-10 pm)

Thursday, April 22

    "What does it mean to speak of Universal Human Rights in the
    Global Nuclear Age?" Jonathan Schell.  Mr. Schell, Harvard '65, wrote
    "News and Comments" for the New Yorker from 1967 to 1987. Among his
    books are: The Fate of the Earth, A Time of Illusion and The Gift of Time:
    the Case for Abolishing Nuclear Weapons Now. Mr. Schell also wrote for
    Newsday and New York Newsday from 1990-1996. He now teaches at
    Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT.
        Time: 4 pm in Smith Auditorium.

Activities: Peace Making Cabaret, 9 p.m. to midnight, Plato's Cave

    Friday, April 23
        Hugh Thompson will visit classes on campus.

    Network meeting with Peace and Social Justice programs in metro area.
    Time: 1 pm in Plato's Annex.
