Dr. Martha Mendez-Baldwin

Assistant Professor of Psychology

Education:

  • B.S., Manhattan College, 1990
  • M.A., Fordham University, 1992
  • Ph.D., Fordham University, May 2001

Research and Scholarly Interests:

My primary interests are in child and adolescent development, specifically the areas of child abuse, parenting, and parent education. My past research has focused on the cognitive abilities of abused children and the effects of parent education on parents of abused children. My current research focuses on the effects of parenting workshops on parental sense of competence and parenting attitudes in parents of Head Start children. I am also examining the correlates of teen violence proneness.  In the future, I would like to explore the effects of parent education on teen parents and the effects of mentoring programs on the adolescent self-esteem and identity.
