Dr. Zella Moore

Assistant Professor of Psychology

Education:

  • Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology, La Salle University, 2003
  • B.A., University of North Florida, 1997

Professional Interests:

My primary research interests follow three distinct paths. My first and most long-standing research focus has been related to various areas of sport psychology, particularly theory development of performance dysfunction, evaluation of the empirical support for traditional sport psychology interventions, classification of athletes' issues, mechanisms of action, and ethical dilemmas in sport psychology practice. I am also the co-delevoper  of the Mindfulness-Acceptance-Commitment (MAC) approach to performance enhancement .  The MAC intervention protocol helps clients reach and maintain consistent optimal performance states, and is used with high performing athletes, business professionals, sales teams, performing artists, medical and fire personnel, and many other high performing clients in high presurre positions.

My second line of research involves an investigation of various constructs related to mindfulness, emotion dysregulation, and experiential avoidance, and their relationship to negative emotional states.

My third line of research involves investigating numerous constructs related to anger, aggression, and violence, with a particular focus on anger dyscontrol and the associated intrapersonal and interpersonal consequences. This line of research includes the co-development of Anger Regulation Therapy (ART), an integrative treatment approach for this challenging clinical phenomenon.
