Education:

  • MAEd, Guidance and Counseling, Western Carolina University
  • BA, Psychology, University of Florida

Research Interests:

I study functional morphology and the evolutionary history of mammals, in particular, extinct herbivores of South America.  This involves work in the field (mostly Bolivia and Perú), in museums (e.g., the American Museum of Natural History where I am a Research Associate in the Vertebrate Paleontology department), and the lab.  (See http://home.manhattan.edu/~bruce.shockey/ and click on “Publications” for examples research.)

Current and Potential Student Projects:

  • Description of the 25 million year old skull of a horned amadillo
  • Morphology study of knee locks in rhinos and some other ungulates
  • Skeletal form and function of extinct, herbivorous mammals
  • Potential for student involvement in fieldwork in South America, Wyoming, or Florida.
