Catherine and Robert Fenton Endowed Chair
Chair of Department |
Education:
- B.S., California State Polytech University 1967
- Ph.D., University of California, Riverside, 1970.
Research Interests:
- Injuries of surfaces of long-lived, columnar cacti
- During 2003, we re-evaluated 1100 saguaros near Tucson, Arizona
- During the summer of 2007, two students, Jennifer Dutan and Annarita Macri joined the group to study the surface injuries in Ecuador and on the Galapagos Islands, Ecuador
- Anatomical basis/mechanical properties of joints of cacti
- Anatomical basis/mechanical properties of grass stems.
- Structure, anatomy, and function of mangroves
- During the summers of 2006 and 2007, many students (during 2006, Maryvic de Leon, Chesea Marks and Erika Sai joined the group to study mangroves in Queensland, Australia while during the summer of 2007, Jonathan Cerutti and Zachary Testo joined the group to study mangroves in Darwin Australia. During the summer of 2008, Christina Pereira and Alana Wolfe will join the group to study mangroves in Vietnam.
- Mechanical properties of tree branches
- The mechanical properties of trees in New York have been studied for many years. During the summer of 2008, Christina Pereira and Alana Wolfe will join the group to study the mechanical properties of trees in California, Arizona, and Vietnam.
