Research and Teaching Interests:My interests are organic and polymer chemistry. The courses which I teach include: Spectroscopy, Advanced Organic Chemistry, Advanced Chemistry Laboratory (Unified Lab IVC), and Organic Chemistry Laboratory. Occasionally, I also teach Organic Chemistry Lecture, General Chemistry Laboratory and General Chemistry Lecture. I have developed several unique laboratory experiments to challenge and educate my students. I have offered many suggestions to Dr. Kerrigan for her "Chemical Magic Show" and for her Science Workshops for High School and Middle School Teachers. Polymer chemistry is my area of research and undergraduate students participate in these endeavors. Human life is dependent on polymers such as DNA and proteins. Everyday, we use polymers, for example, natural polymers such as cotton, wool, paper and leather. Also, we use synthetic polymers including: PET (polyester fabric, and soda-pop bottles); polyethylene (milk and juice bottles); PVC (water & waste pipes); Teflon® (frying pans); Nylon (fabric and automobile parts), etc. Polymers usually do not mix, and my research involves the discovery and properties of new compatible polymer blends. While doing this research, we have also discovered some new polymer complexes and are exploring the properties of these unusual materials. Why do the polymers sometimes form blends or sometimes form polymer complexes? Hopefully, these discoveries lead to new and interesting materials for everyday use. My students have presented the results of their research at the New York Chemistry Students Annual Research Symposium.
