TIAA-CREF/SRA

As an additional way to plan for retirement, a 403(b) tax deferred annuity plan is available. Employees participate by authorizing monies obtained through payroll deductions to be invested in an individually selected, professionally managed portfolio. The deducted monies and the interest earned are tax exempt until the money is withdrawn.

PENSION PLAN

Manhattan College provides a defined contribution plan through TIAA-CREF for full-time employees. The employee contributes 3% or 5% of their salary. The employer contribution is based on 5% of the employee’s annual salary up to the social security wage base.

The College has increased the employer contribution to the Pension Plan for employees with 10 years of continuous full time employment up to a maximum of 10%. This increase will be phased in over the next three years as follows: 7.5% in Fiscal Year 2006; 8.5% in Fiscal Year 2007 and then 10% in Fiscal Year 2008 and thereafter, unless unforeseen financial situations necessitate a longer phase in.

The College contribution for salary above the social security wage base is 10%.

There is a two year waiting period to join the plan. However, time worked at other higher educational institutions can be used towards the 2 years or if you have a TIAA-CREF contract in force you can join immediately.

The above describes a brief summary of benefits. Employees should refer to the Benefit Handbook for details.
