Chair, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry

Manhattan College is seeking a Ph.D. chemist or biochemist to serve as chair of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry beginning July 1, 2013.

The department is seeking a scholar with leadership abilities to guide it in the reassessment of its programs, including the development of a new concentration in environmental science and new masters programs. Its current faculty have backgrounds and expertise in biochemistry, inorganic, organic, analytical, and physical chemistry. A successful candidate must present evidence of excellence in teaching, research productivity and leadership ability to merit appointment at the rank of associate or full professor. The ability to mentor undergraduate research is essential. All areas of expertise in chemistry and biochemistry will be considered.

Review of applications will begin in early September and continue until the position is filled. Applications should include a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, statements of administrative and teaching philosophies, and a research proposal that includes the role of undergraduates. Three letters of reference should also be sent.
