Rooms in the O’Malley Library are for the use of students, faculty,
staff, and administration of Manhattan College. The use policy varies
depending on the specific type of room. Reservations for rooms may be
made at the Circulation Desk in the Library or by calling 718-862-7743
or 718-862-7166. See also the Access Policy and the Code of Conduct Policy for Library Users.
GROUP STUDY ROOMS 313-314, 401-403, 411-418, 502, 504
Each room has a table, 4 to 6 chairs, a whiteboard, and a network connection. With additional chairs, room 401 can seat 12.
- The study rooms are primarily for the use of groups (at least two persons).
- Reservations are for a maximum period of three hours.
- A student group may not make several reservations at the same time.
- If a reserved room has not been used after 15 minutes, a different group may use it.
- The study rooms are not used as classrooms for regularly scheduled courses for an entire semester.
- The study rooms may be reserved for the use of one person, but the individual may be asked to leave for a group.
GROUP VIEWING ROOM 101
The Group Viewing Room has a table and 4 chairs. Equipment can be moved into the room for group viewing and listening.
- The policy for using this room is similar to that of the Group
Study Rooms, except that group viewing and listening to media take
priority over other uses.
ELECTRONIC CLASSROOM 410
The Electronic Classroom has 30 computer stations, a whiteboard,
a screen, and a projector permanently installed on the ceiling. An
instructor’s computer is not permanently installed. One of the 30
student computers or a laptop can be wired to the projection system.
- The Electronic Classroom is for computer-related classes taught by librarians and faculty members.
- If equipment needs to be set up, the reservation should be made at
least 24 hours in advance not including weekends.
If a class is using only about half of the computers in the Electronic
Classroom, the instructor should consider allowing other students to
use the remaining computers.
- The Electronic Classroom is not used as a classroom for regularly scheduled courses for an entire semester.
- When the Electronic Classroom is not being used for classes, it is used as a computer lab.
MULTIMEDIA CLASSROOM 104
The Multimedia Classroom has 38 seats, a whiteboard, a screen,
and a projector permanently installed on the ceiling. The instructor’s
podium has a computer, a network connection, and a VCR/DVD player.
- The Multimedia Classroom is used for classes taught by librarians or faculty members or for campus events.
- If equipment needs to be set up, the reservation should be made at least 24 hours in advance not including weekends.
- The Multimedia Classroom is not used as a classroom for regularly scheduled courses for an entire semester.
ELECTRONIC COMMONS 506 and SOUTH COMPUTER ROOM 206
The Electronic Commons has 28 computer stations. The South Computer Room has 38 computer stations.
- These rooms are set up as computer labs, not as classrooms. In
unusual circumstances one of these rooms could be reserved for a class,
but ordinarily the Electronic Classroom 410 or the Multimedia Classroom
104 should be used for instruction.
TELECONFERENCE ROOM 103
The Teleconference Room has a table, 12 seats, 2 whiteboards, and a screen. The room has a speaker-phone but not a projector.
- The Teleconference Room is not used as a classroom for regularly scheduled courses for an entire semester.
ALUMNI ROOM 100
The Alumni Room has 24 lounge seats, 6 side or coffee tables,
four conference tables, and a podium with a sound system. Approximately
60 non-lounge chairs can be added by the library to accommodate a
larger gathering.
- Located on the first floor, this room is primarily accessible by elevator from the fifth (main) floor.
- The pine-paneled room is traditional in tone and is especially
appointed for such campus events as receptions, readings, book
signings, seminars, working group discussions, panels, and meetings and
programs of honor societies.
- Light food and beverages may be served in the room exclusively by Gourmet Dining, which is located in Thomas Hall. http://manhattan.e-cater.com/default.php Hot food, banquet or dinner-style fare is strongly discouraged. The person reserving the room makes all necessary arrangements with Gourmet Dining for the delivery and removal of food.
- Likewise, any request for additional furniture must be made by the requester to Campus Events (Thomas Hall, x7245).
- The Alumni Room may be used as a reading room when events are not
scheduled there and when the Media Center is staffed and supervised.
- The room does not have a network connection and may not be suitable
for multi-media presentations. These activities should be scheduled in
Room 104.
CURRICULUM RESOURCE CENTER ROOM 207
The Curriculum Room has 3 conference tables and 14 chairs.
- The Curriculum Room contains a special collection of educational
resources: curriculum guides and children’s fiction and nonfiction. The
room is intended to serve the needs of users of these resources.
