Local Author To Discuss His New Memoir At Manhattan College

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Author Joel Chasnoff will deliver a lecture at Manhattan College on Thursday, February 11 at 4:00 p.m. Chasnoff is a stand-up comedian and writer with stage and screen credits in eight countries. He has had his writings featured in The Idiots Guide to Jokes and The Big Book of Jewish Humor: 25th Anniversary Edition. Chasnoff will speak on his experiences as an American serving in the Israeli army in Lebanon, which is the subject of his new book, The 188th Crybaby Brigade: A Skinny Jewish Kid from Chicago Fights Hezbollah, (Simon and Schuster) out this month.  The event will be held in the Scala Academy Room, Leo Hall, Room 215.

Following his graduation from the University of Pennsylvania, Chasnoff, a Riverdale resident, moved to Israel and volunteered for a combat unit of the Israeli army. As a member of the 188th Armored Brigade, Chasnoff was voted Outstanding Soldier of the Company and deployed to Lebanon for a tour of duty against Hezbollah. The 188th Crybaby Brigade is Chasnoff’s humorous memoir about his year in the Israeli military.

Copies of The 188th Crybaby Brigade will be on sale at the event and a portion of all proceeds from its sales will be donated to Chasnoff’s charitable foundation, Project Elijah.
