Manhattan College Welcomes Journalist Bill Moyers To Present Lecture On The Nation’s Founding IdealsRIVERDALE, N.Y. – Journalist Bill Moyers will deliver the lecture Making A Difference at Manhattan College on Thursday, April 12 at 7:30 pm. Presented by the College’s Robert J. Christen Program in Early American History and Culture, the lecture focusing on our nation’s founding ideals will be held in the Chapel of De La Salle and His Brothers. The event is free and open to the public. A winner of more than 30 Emmys and 10 Peabody awards for outstanding achievement in broadcasting, Moyers has spent more than three decades as a television journalist. He began his career as publisher of Newsday, and in 1971 began a 10-year run as host of the Public Broadcasting System (PBS) news program Bill Moyers Journal. In 1976, Moyers also assumed the role of editor and chief correspondent for CBS Reports and later served for five years as senior news analyst and commentator for the CBS Evening News with Dan Rather. He currently serves as the president of the Schumann Center for Media and Democracy, a foundation that works to renew the democratic process through cooperative acts of citizenship. Moyers and wife, Judith David Moyers, formed Public Affairs Television in 1986, and in 1995, he briefly joined NBC News as a senior analyst and commentator. The following year he became the first host of MSNBC’s Insight program, and he hosted the news journal NOW with Bill Moyers for three years. Recently, he hosted the seven-part interview series Bill Moyers on Faith & Reason and a three-part investigative documentary series Moyers on America. His latest series, Bill Moyers Journal, premieres the week of April 22. The Christen Program is named in honor of the late Robert J. Christen, a Manhattan College faculty member who served for many years on the Board of Education of the City of New York. For his many contributions to education, the Riverdale Public School 81 is named in his honor.
