Manhattan College To Host Nov. 14
Walk-A-Thon For Tuberous Sclerosis

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Students from the College of Mount Saint Vincent’s communication department will hold a walk-a-thon on Monday, November 14 at 4:00 p.m. at Manhattan College to raise money for Tuberous Sclerosis (TS). The communication program is a joint program between Manhattan and the College of Mount Saint Vincent.

The event, entitled “Small Steps, Big Changes,” is in honor of Courtney Leigh, the younger sister of a communication student. All proceeds will benefit The Courtney Leigh Small Steps Fund. This fund centers its efforts on children affected by TS and awards money for care-giving needs and research on the illness.

Tuberous Sclerosis is a genetic disorder that causes tumors to form on various organs of the body. The disease affects 1 million people worldwide. To learn more about TS, visit the Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance Web site at www.tsalliance.org. Information about the disease also will be available at the walk.

The students arranging the event study advanced public relations and this project is part of their coursework. The event has been sponsored in part by the communication department and the office of student affairs at the College of Mount Saint Vincent.

The walk-a-thon will take place from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on the Manhattan College Quad. There will be food and musical performances. The Mount Saint Vincent, Manhattan College and neighboring communities are encouraged to attend.
