Manhattan Alum Sets Record at Beijing Olympics

Barely missing a spot in the finals of the 400-meter dash, Manhattan College alum Aliann Pompey '99 set a new national record for Guyana at the Beijing Olympics on Aug. 17. Pompey ran 50.93 to finish fourth in her semifinal heat and 11th overall. The top two athletes from each semifinal and the other two fastest times qualified for the Olympic finals. Read.

 

 

 

Lady Jaspers Praised for Strong Academic Performance

Manhattan College was named to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's Academic Top 25 Honor Roll, which was announced in July. The Lady Jaspers ranked eighth in all of Division I, as the squad boasted a 3.43 grade point average for the 2007-08 academic year. Manhattan College was the highest-rated MAAC program. Read.

 

Local Rivals Highlight Men's Basketball Non-Conference Schedule

Local rivalry match-ups with Fordham and Hofstra highlight the non-conference schedule for the Manhattan College men's basketball team in 2008-09. The Jaspers will host five games and play six road contests outside the MAAC, including participation in the seventh annual O'Reilly ESPNU Bracketbusters. Manhattan also will square off with 2008 postseason participants American University and Morgan State. Read.

 

Ryan Darcy '03 Promoted To Top Baseball Assistant

Entering his fourth year with the Manhattan College baseball program, Ryan Darcy '03 was promoted to top assistant coach in August. Darcy will continue to work primarily with the pitching staff while assisting in all aspects of the program, including recruiting. He also will serve as Manhattan's athletic operations manager.
