Faculty and Staff Accomplishments

Dr. Janet Rovenpor, professor of management and marketing, and Dr. Mary Michel, assistant professor of accounting, CIS and law, co-authored the case study “JetBlue Airways: A Cadre of New Managers Takes Control,” which was recently published in the textbook Crafting and Executing Strategy: The Quest for Competitive Advantage.

Dr. Nicholas De Lillo, professor of mathematics and computer science, completed the paper “Simulations of Deterministic Finite State Automata Using C++ and the Standard Template Library.” It has been accepted for publication in a forthcoming issue of the Technical Reports Series of the Ivan G. Seidenberg School of Computer Science and Information Systems at Pace University and will be published in either September of October.

In addition, De Lillo has been named a reviewer for papers submitted for presentation at the 41st Technical Symposium on Computer Science Education of the Association for Computing Machinery, to be held from March 10-13, 2010 in Milwaukee, Wis.

Dr. Joseph Lennon, associate professor of English, authored the cover story “The Art of the First Hunger Striker: Marion Wallace-Dunlop,” for the July 24, 2009 issue of The Times Literary Supplement. To read the article, click Here.

Dr. Harry Stein, adjunct assistant professor of education, participated in the conference Teaching and Learning with Memory: Improving Examination Performance, from July 6-7 at Moi University in Kenya.

Dr. Bruce Liby, associate professor of physics and chair of the physics department, and Ryan Scholl authored the paper “Using a Michelson Interferometer to Measure Coefficient of Thermal Expansion of Copper,” which appeared in the May 2009 issue of The Physics Teacher, a publication of the American Association of Physics Teachers. Dr. Claudia Setzer, professor and chair of the religious studies department, gave the closing address at the conference Resurrection and the Gospel of Matthew at Tilburg University in the Netherlands in April.

Dr. Jonathan Hartman, assistant professor of marketing, and Dr. Hung Wu Chu, assistant professor of management, authored the paper “Mergers and Acquisitions: The argument for holistic, integrated measure of success,” which recently appeared in the Leadership and Organization Management Journal.

Dr. Anirban De, associate professor of civil and environmental engineering, delivered the invited lecture Use of Geotechnical Centrifuge to Study the Effects of Surface Explosions to the Mid-Hudson Branch of the American Society of Civil Engineers in Newburgh, N.Y., this past October.

Dr. Robert Geraci, assistant professor of religious studies, gave the public lecture  In Whose Image? Cloning, Artificial Intelligence, and Human Souls at First Presbyterian Church of Katonah, N.Y., on March 8.

Dr. William Merriman, dean of the school of education, was nominated and elected to membership in the New York Academy of Public Education. The academy was founded in 1912 to provide a forum for constructive educational thinking and leadership. Merriman was inducted into the academy at the Princeton Club on Feb. 4.

Dr. Claudia Setzer, professor of religious studies, gave the opening talk at a conference on The Human Body and Resurrection at the University of Regensburg in Regensburg, Germany, in December.

Dr. Jonathan Hartman and Dr. Yassir Samra, assistant professors of marketing, published the paper “Crisis Management: An Empirical Investigation of the Effects of Improvisation on New Product Development in the Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Industries” in the journal Insights to a Changing World.

In addition, Hartman and Samra published “Effect on an Improvisational Approach to New Product Development During a Crisis: An Empirical Study of NPD Teams in the Field of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering,” which Samra presented at the proceeding of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers in Philadelphia this past November.
