Faculty and Staff Accomplishments

Ricardo Dello Buono, Ph.D., chair of the sociology department and associate professor, was a visiting professor last June at the Universidad Iberoamericana, a Jesuit University in Mexico City, Mexico. He also interviewed live on a popular Mexican radio program on June 11 and later led a seminar entitled, “América Latina y El Caribe en la época post Consenso de Washington” (Latin America and the Caribbean in the Post-Washington Consensus Era). In addition, his most recent book Crisis, Politics and Critical Sociology (co-edited with Graham Cassano) was published by Brill Academic Publishers (2010).

Paul Droubie, Ph.D., assistant professor of history presented, “Phoenix Arisen: Japan as Peaceful Internationalist at the 1964 Tokyo Summer Olympics” on Aug. 30 at the 11th World Leisure Congress in Chuncheon, South Korea.

George Kirsch, Ph.D., professor of history, discussed Two Aspects of Life in Hackensack in the 1950s: Desegregation of the Elementary Schools, and the Impact of the Shopping Centers on Main Street on Sept. 23 at the Johnson Public Library in Hackensack, N.J. On Oct. 12, 2010, Kirsch will also speak at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Conn., on The Democratization of Golf in the U.S.

Claire Nolte, Ph.D., professor of history, was invited to give a lecture at Oxford University entitled, Inter arma silent Musae? Culture in wartime Prague as part of the international symposium, “Kafka, Prague, and the First World War,” organized by the Oxford Kafka Research Center in September.

Julie Leininger Pycior, Ph.D., professor of history, presented the lecture Trans-national Labor Activism: Lessons from the Mexican-heritage Community on March 17, 2010, at Michigan State University’s Julian Samora Research Institute. The Samora Institute also posted her article “Important but Ignored: Midwest Latino Biography and Memoir” online.

Grishma Shah, Ph.D., assistant professor in the department of management and marketing, presented “Globalization and the Rise of Work-Family/Family Work Conflict in India,” at the Academy of International Business in Rio de Janiero, Brazil in June.
