Save the Date — Rwandan Genocide Survivor to Speak at Manhattan on Feb. 9

On Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2011, the International Honor Society for Educators, Kappa Delta Pi, with the help of Manhattan’s administration, is bringing Immaculee Ilibagiza, author of Left to Tell and Rwandan genocide survivor, to campus to speak and share her extraordinary story with the College’s community.

Ilibagiza lost most of her family during the 1994 genocide in Rwanda, which was sparked by the death of the president of Rwanda and resulted in a three-month slaughter of more than 700,000 Tutsis. By hiding in a Hutu pastor's tiny bathroom with seven other starving women for 91 terrifying days, Ilibagiza was able to survive.

Ilibagiza has shared her story with thousands of audiences throughout the world, most recently as the commencement speaker for the College of New Rochelle at Radio City Music Hall. The event will be held in Smith Auditorium from 4:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
