Manhattan College Offering
New Labor Studies Major

Starting in January 2011, Manhattan College will be offering a new undergraduate labor studies major and minor in the school of arts. The labor studies program will teach critical intellectual skills enabling students to analyze social policy questions and prepare for graduate studies and/or careers in government, labor law, union organization, human resources, teaching and much more.

Manhattan Magazine Gets a Makeover

Starting with the fall 2010 issue of Manhattan, Jaspers will notice a big difference in their alumni magazine. The College has redesigned the magazine, which officially launches in mid-December. Look for a new trim size, improved sections, feature stories and more. It’s coming soon to a mailbox near you!

 

Manhattan Attends STEM Conference with Other Lasallian Educators

Manhattan College was recently named as one of the top 100 private universities in Kiplinger’s Personal Finance Best Value in Private Colleges survey.

Manhattan Headed to
National Ethics Bowl

On Nov. 20, Manhattan College’s ethics team competed in the regional division of the International Ethics Bowl held at Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H., and prevailed as one of the top contenders that will battle for the national bowl next March in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Manhattan Student Featured on Internship Blog

Hillary Krombel, an aspiring doctor and a junior psychology major, is studying abroad in Ecuador at the Universidad Espiritu Santo (UEES) in Guayaquil and is also interning in the wound care room at the Damien House.

President O’Donnell Addresses
Boston Area Alumni

In late October, Brennan O’Donnell, Ph.D., president of Manhattan College, traveled to Boston, Mass., for a gathering at the Oceanaire Seafood Room hosted by board of trustee members Peter Mulderry ’87 and Kenneth Rathgeber ’70. O’Donnell updated 30 Manhattan alumni and friends on three new ventures for the College, including the marketing initiative, strategic planning and the campaign for a new student commons building.

The Manhattan College Singers and Orchestra will host their holiday program, A Festival of Lessons and Carols, on Sunday, Dec. 5 at 4:30 p.m. in the Chapel of De La Salle and His Brothers, with preludes beginning at 4:15 p.m.

Save the Date — Rwandan Genocide Survivor to Speak at
Manhattan on Feb. 9

On Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2011, the International Honor Society for Educators, Kappa Delta Pi, with the help of Manhattan’s administration, is bringing Immaculee Ilibagiza, author of Left to Tell and Rwandan genocide survivor, to campus to speak and share her extraordinary story with the College’s community.

On Tuesday, Dec. 7, Manhattan College’s Jazz Band will have its winter concert in Dante’s Den (Thomas Hall) at 8:00 p.m. The band will play a variety of selections including swing, funk, Latin, ballads and jazz renditions of familiar pieces.

MAAC Coach of the Year

After leading the Manhattan College volleyball team to its first 20-win season in seven years, head coach Mark Jones was recognized by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference's (MAAC) 10 head coaches as the 2010 Anaconda Sports MAAC Coach of the Year.
