The foundational principles of the writing across the curriculum movement are three: the centrality of writing to learning, the importance of regular practice to the development and maintenance of good writing skills, and the necessity of discipline-specific writing instruction across the curriculum. In order to encourage and support productive student writing in all schools at Manhattan College, the Coordinator of Writing Across the Curriculum is a consultant to faculty outside of composition courses in English. The Coordinator works with faculty one-on-one or in groups to provide assistance and resources appropriate to the writing component of their courses. In addition, the Coordinator plays a central role in inter-departmental discussions of curriculum and pedagogy.
