Directories of Writing Across the Curriculum Program Websites

WAC sites are excellent resources for teachers in all disciplines.They often contain a wealth of advice on designing and evaluating assignments, extensive information on research writing (documentation style guides, tips for web research, and so on), lists of web resources, and bibliographies of articles on writing in the various disciplines.You’ll find material for teachers and for students.  The websites for the following programs have links to dozens of WAC programs.

These are some of the most useful WAC websites.

Georgia State University

A selection of resources for teachers and students and a great bibliography of WAC articles in professional journals.

Indiana University

Another comprehensive site: material for faculty and students and a great bibliography.

Malaspina University College

A site students will find useful, with an “Electronic Tutor” offering help on writing problems and a “Virtual Reference Desk” providing a host of online dictionaries, directories, and documentation style guides.

Northern Illinois University

A range of materials, particularly useful for research writing.
Bibliographies of Writing Across the Curriculum Articles

These links will take you to extensive (and often annotated) bibliographies sorted by discipline of WAC articles in professional journals across the curriculum: Business, Education, Engineering, Humanities, Science, Math and Computer Science, Social Science.  These articles are generally written by faculty in the content area and discuss teaching techniques, course and assignment design, grading strategies, and so on.

Evaluating Web Sources

Cornell University: “Evaluating Websites: Criteria and Tools”

A fine site:  information you can use in classroom instruction and a place to send students on their own.  The site discusses evaluation criteria important to online research and surveys a range of web resources to the research writer.

Ithaca College Library: “The ICYouSEE Guide to Critical Thinking About What You See on the Web”

This site outlines a series of points for critical analysis of websites.  Send your students here or use it as a lesson plan for in-class instruction.

Librarian’s Index to the Internet

A comprehensive directory of websites in ALL disciplines, with evaluative annotations.  Informative for all, and very useful for students.
