General Information and One-on-One Conferencing

Good writing takes time; it also takes the writing of multiple drafts to fine-tune the presentation of your ideas. Good writers seek support during this process. Talking about your writing with an interested reader helps you develop and revise your ideas. This is what the Writing Center provides: a place to discuss your writing with a trained peer tutor.

Once you are assigned a peer tutor, you will sit down one-on-one with this person. Together, you can brainstorm ideas, negotiate revision strategies, discuss reading techniques: literally, any topic that will make you become a better writer and reader of your own work.

The discussion will focus on options open to you, and it is up to you to decide which approach will work best. Our tutors will not unilaterally tell you what to do, proofread, or edit your paper for you. Your work will remain your own. Think of us as your sounding board, giving you productive feedback and advice that you apply at your discretion. We are here to help you become a more effective writer.
