To apply for a Federal Stafford Loan, you must complete the following steps:
Step 1:
- Click HERE to complete your loan entrance counseling.
(This will open a new web browser window. After completing the Entrance Counseling, CLOSE that browser window and RETURN to this window.)
Step 2:
- REVIEW the lender benefits below, choose your lender and click on the link in the "How to Apply" column.
Step 3:
- You will be directed to complete the Electronic Master Promissory Note (E-MPN) online with New York Higher Education Services Corporation (HESC).
NOTE: The student will need their FAFSA pin number (can be retrieved at www.pin.ed.gov) since it serves as a way to sign the application electronically. This Stafford Loan Application is standard whether your loan is Subsidized, Unsubsidized or a combination of both. You will NOT be asked to enter a dollar amount. The type of loan (sub/unsub/combo) and dollar amount of loan will be communicated to HESC by the SFS office since we have that information from your award letter.
Your loan will NOT be processed until you have completed all of the above steps.
The following is a recommended list of lenders. You may choose any lender not listed here simply by clicking on any "apply" button in the boxes below. All selections below will direct you to NYS HESC's website which will again provide a drop-down box for selecting a lender from an all-inclusive list. The lenders listed below are in no order of preference and are listed alphabetically. Please review the information carefully as you consider your options.
Many students/families borrow from one lender to minimize the complexities of the repayment process. Often times, borrowers look to their schools to provide information or recommendations on the many lenders offering these educational products. Manhattan College does not benefit from lender choice in any way. Manhattan College collects lender information through proactive requests for information (RFI). Lenders we recommend are selected on the basis of the SFS Office’s review of optimal service in processing, costs and benefits, and customer service. We encourage you to research these and other lenders. You are not limited to our suggestions and you may choose any lender you wish, as Manhattan College will work with any lender.
