Internship Information Session

This session describes what an internship is and includes a discussion on why students want to do one. It will provide students with information on the requirements needed to begin an internship. They will learn about the necessary paperwork including the application form, the faculty recommendation, and the financial aid form. There will also be a discussion on réumé writing and how to write cover letters. Samples will be presented.  See schedule.

Interview Training Workshop

This workshop will cover what you need to know in order to succeed at your job interview. Topics aimed at preparing you for the interview include: researching the company, how to dress, what employers are looking for, and what questions to expect (what may be asked and what to ask them). Also covered are salary negotiations and stories of personal experiences. A 20-minute video covering various scenarios will be presented and an "Interview Training" booklet will be given out. This workshop is required for participation in the Internship/Co-op program and Senior On-Campus Recruitment.  See schedule.

Orientation:ManhattanCSMLink & Job Hunting

This workshop will show you how to use ManhattanCSMLink in order to be involved with companies conducting on-campus recruitment and with internships. You will learn how to search and navigate, submit résumés, and sign up for jobs. Also covered in this session are techniques for obtaining a job. Networking letters and telephone calls are discussed as well as interviewing, other methods for job hunting, and follow-up strategies.  See schedule.

How to Choose a Major

This workshop is for those who are unsure of what they want to do in the future. It covers the tools Career Services utilizes to help you make a decision. These include the Strong Interest Inventory, the CareerExplorer (an interactive software program) and the Career Decision Maker, all of which serve as aids in learning what careers would suit a person with your interests. Once a career field is identified you can then explore which majors relate to that career.  See schedule.

Etiquette Dinner

Students are invited by Deans to participate in the Etiquette Dinner, which is conducted by a faculty member of a restaurant school. Students will be served a full-course meal and the discussion will revolve around what types of food to order at a business/interview meal, when to use certain utensils, how the table should be set, how to order wine, and how to eat certain foods.  A definite must for those who are invited to dine by a company.  See schedule.

Teacher/Recruiting Event

Representatives from various school districts (including the Archdiocese of NY) will be invited to talk about their respective districts. In the past, we have had the Archdiocese of New York, the NYC Board of Education, BOCES, and Westchester schools.  They will discuss what qualifications they seek in teacher applicants and will talk about interviewing (what questions will be asked, etc.). Representatives will also answer questions, including those relating to the different areas of NYC, misconceptions students may have regarding those various regions, and expectations in general. For the remainder of the event, the representatives will be at separate tables, providing them with an opportunity to meet individual students and collect résumés.  See schedule.
