We take the promise of providing a safe, equitable and virtuous college experience for both students and the broader Manhattan College community very seriously. Our codes of conduct ensure Manhattan College remains a caring and civil campus community.
As a Lasallian Catholic college, we remain closely tied to our roots, namely the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools founded by Saint John Baptist de La Salle more than 300 years ago in France. The expectations for student behavior, expressed in the Community Standards Handbook, are directly influenced by the ideas of De La Salle.
In developing the community standards and the code of conduct infractions and sanctions, we take influence from De La Salle’s disciplinary model — the spirit of prudence and justice. We remain close to a core principle that “no correction should be administered unless it is considered useful and advantageous.”
The Community Standards Handbook outlines the Manhattan College Community Standards (including the 12 virtues of a good Lasallian and our honor code), Student Code of Conduct (including policies relating to drugs and alcohol), Residence Life Community Standards and Code of Conduct, Off-Campus Conduct Policy, Disciplinary Sanctions, Judicial Process, Procedures and Adjudicating Bodies, Academic Policies and Policy Statements. It is the responsibility of each student to familiarize themselves with our handbook.
