Residence LifeFrequently Asked Questions1) What are the residence hall rooms furnished with? Each room has a bed (twin, extra long), desk, chair, dresser and closet space for each resident. In addition, each room is carpeted. (see Things to Bring section for information on what to bring to college). 2) What dining services are included with the room? All new residents must be on the traditional 19-meal plan. This plan includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner on weekdays and brunch and dinner on the weekends. After the first semester in residence, the meal plan can be changed. Students can fill out a meal plan change form at the end of the Fall semester. Forms will be available at the Residence Life Office at that time. 3) Does the school provide student e-mail accounts? Each student is provided with an e-mail account on the Manhattan College network. 4) Does the school provide Internet access? Each room has access to the school’s network and the Internet via an RJ-45 Ethernet jack. You must provide Ethernet card and patch cable for desktop computer. For more computer information, go to the Manhattan College Computer Helpdesk: and click on Information for Incoming Freshmen. 5) Do the rooms have telephones? No, each student is responsible for bringing his or her own telephone. Every student is assigned a telephone number. Each resident has his or her own telephone connection jack. Audix voice mail features are included. All students are assigned a PAC (Personal Authorization Code) in order to dial off campus. The Business Manager’s Office, Miguel Hall, Room 107 assigns PAC codes. 6) I have a cell phone. Why do I need a room phone? Many times, general information for all students is left on students’ voicemail on their room phones. In order for a student to receive these messages, it is important for students to have a room phone with their voicemail/audix set up . In addition, you can save money be using your room phone to call anywhere on campus vs. using your cell phone and incurring charges. 7) Do I have cable television? All rooms are equipped with cable. Residents have to provide a coaxial cable for the television. Stations available include: HBO, MTV, SPORTS, CNN, VH1, and many others. 8) Can I have a refrigerator? You may bring a small refrigerator less than 6.1 cubic feet. You may also rent one through a vendor who comes to the campus on move-in weekend. The only kind of microwave students are allowed are the ones this vendor offers that is a refrigerator with microwave attached on top. The Resident Student Association will send out more information on refrigerator rentals; however, the company, Cecil Distributors can be reached at 718-267-6484 for further information. 9) When will I know my room assignment? The room assignments will be mailed to you in the middle of July. Your packet will also contain your roommate’s contact information. 10) When can I move into my residence hall? New students move into the residence halls Saturday, August 26th, between the hours of 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. 11) Are freshmen allowed to have cars on campus? No, freshmen are not allowed to have cars on campus. 12) How do I get my mail? Each resident is given a mailbox when they check into their residence hall. The mailboxes for Jasper, Chrysostom, DeLaSalle and Overlook are located in the bottom of Thomas Hall. Horan Hall mailboxes are located in the building. Any mail or package that is too large for the mailbox can be picked up in the mailroom. The mailroom will place a notice in your mailbox that you have a package, so it is important to check your mailbox daily. 13) When will I be able to get my books? Books can be purchased online at efollett.com. The campus bookstore is located in the Leo Engineering building. The bookstore will be open on Saturday, August 26, from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M. Monday, August 28, through Thursday, August 31st the hours are 8 A.M to 7 P.M. Friday, September 1st the hours are 8 A.M. to 3 P.M. and Saturday, September 2nd the hours are 9 A.M. to 1 P.M. 14) Where are the laundry facilities? All residence halls have washers and dryers. The cost it $1.00 for wash and $1.00 for dry. The machines only accept quarters, but change machines are on campus. 15) What size sheets will I need? Twin extra long is recommended.
