Do you sing, dance, act or just love the arts? Then get involved in one of our many fantastic ensembles! All groups hold open auditions and practices at the start of the school year.

Manhattan College Singers

The Manhattan College Singers welcome all singers who are interested in choral music with solo and small ensemble opportunities.

The Manhattan College Singers is a part of a long tradition on college campuses. This ensemble of choristers was founded when Manhattan College was an all-male school as the Manhattan College Glee Club. When the college became a coeducational institution the name was changed to The Manhattan College Singers. The Singers have performed at many campus events including masses to celebrate both the beginning and ending of the school year, as well as academic convocations. The Singers have toured on a number of occasions to Europe, singing in Paris, London and Rome. Membership is open at the beginning of each semester to any student, faculty or staff member, alumnus or alumna.

Requirements A love of singing and choral music
Concerts A Festival of Lessons and Carols, Spring Concert, Baccalaureate, and other events
Other Occasional tours; college credit may be earned in this ensemble (up to three total)

Manhattan College Players

The Manhattan College Players is a student-led ensemble of performers. Productions are directed by a professional with students working on all tasks involved in putting on the productions. Auditions are held at the beginning of each semester.

Requirements A love of acting and the theatrical arts
Performances Play in the fall, musical in the spring, and possible cabarets during the semester
Other Auditions are held at the beginning of each semester for each production; behind-the-scenes opportunities are also available.

Jazz Band

The Manhattan College Jazz Band is a lively ensemble of musicians who love the art of jazz. They’ve been a part of campus life for many years and have openings for anyone who would like to play.

Membership Open at the beginning of each semester to any student, faculty or staff member, alumnus or alumna
Rehearsals Tuesdays 7 – 9 p.m., Thomas Hall
Requirements Instrumental experience (lessons or school band)
Concerts Two per year (December and May)
Other Saxes and brass are needed, as well as piano and drum set; college credit may be earned in this ensemble (up to three total)

The Pipes and Drums

The Manhattan College Pipes and Drums was formed in 1981 under the guidance of Brother Kenneth Fitzgerald, FSC, and the musical training of Captain Robert Hogan ’82, of the Pipes and Drums of the NYPD Emerald Society.

Rehearsals Thursdays 7:30 – 9:30 p.m., Thomas Hall
Requirements Ability to play or desire to learn in a two-year program (next learning program: fall 2012)
Performances The month of March is the main marching season; other opportunities throughout the year on campus
Other Great way to learn the pipes and drums with dedication to the program … and the Pipers Ball is pretty good, too

Manhattan College Orchestra

The Manhattan College Orchestra offers the chance for Manhattan College students to play a diverse and exciting symphonic repertoire.

Membership Open at the beginning of each semester to any student, faculty or staff member, alumnus or alumna
Rehearsals Mondays 7:30 – 9:30 p.m., Chapel
Requirements Instrumental experience (lessons or school orchestra/band)
Concerts One or two per semester
Other College credit may be earned in this ensemble (up to three total)

Music Ministry

The Music Ministry ensemble welcomes all students, regardless of faith, to lead the music in the Chapel of De La Salle on Sunday evenings. The ensemble welcomes piano players, organists, singers, trained cantors, guitar players, woodwinds and percussion. Join us to bring the music alive at every mass.

Rehearsals Sunday at 6 p.m., Chapel of De La Salle
Requirements A love of singing or playing before God
Performances Each Sunday at Mass, Baccalaureate and other events
Other Training available for everyone to allow you to feel more comfortable in leading the music

Scatterbomb

Are you quick on your feet and love making other people laugh? Scatterbomb is the College improv troupe. Sign up at the Activities and Volunteer Fair and you’ll be one step closer to getting ‘em rolling in the aisles!
