Digital Media Art Major Introduced for Spring 2021 Semester

Students can develop a critical awareness of digital media art as an agent of social change.

Digital media student projectManhattan College’s digital media art program will become a digital media art major beginning in spring 2021.

The digital media art minor includes four courses: Digital Drawing, Digital Photography, Digital Video, and Graphic Design. To fill out the major, four additional subject areas are being added: Web Design, Game Design, Animation, and Immersive Media (VR/AR/MxR).

“We’re creating the digital media art major to build on and grow the department’s existing major in art history, satisfy overwhelming student demand for additional digital media art programming, and capitalize on the wealth of related resources in New York City,” said Daniel Savoy, Ph.D., chair of the Art History and Digital Media Art department.

One of the main goals of the new major is for students to develop a critical awareness of the history, theory, and practice of digital media art as an agent of social change, which aligns it with the College’s mission of person-centered learning and civic engagement.

One of the world’s leading centers of digital media art, Manhattan College’s New York City location offers students unrivaled access to some of the industry’s most sought-after internship and career opportunities.

The faculty has recently established an exclusive internship collaboration with Ogilvy, the global New York City-based advertising agency, whose leadership is excited to welcome Manhattan College students beginning in the fall of 2021. In addition, recent digital media art minors have gone on to secure positions as graphic designers at outstanding institutions, including the Guggenheim Museum and Chobani Yogurt.
