Manhattan University proudly announces the inaugural lecture in its ARCHtalk series by Anthony D. Mercando, M.D. Dr. Mercando is a 1976 summa cum laude graduate of the University with a degree in electrical engineering. He then went on to earn his medical degree from Harvard Medical School and the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology.
The lecture titled, “AI in Health Care: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly” will take place on Thursday, February 26 at 5:00 p.m. in Kelly Commons on the Manhattan University campus. The lecture is open to the general public at no cost.
Dr. Mercando is a practicing cardiologist at White Plains Hospital Medical Center and White Plains Hospital Physician Associates as well as the Director of AI Strategy at the hospital. He completed his internal medicine internship, residency (serving as Chief Resident), and fellowship in clinical cardiology at Montefiore Medical Center, Bronx, NY and has practiced in Westchester County for over 35 years. He is board-certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease and is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association as well as a member of the Heart Rhythm Society.
Dr. Mercando served as Clinical Professor of Medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at Columbia University. He has maintained an interest in technology in medicine throughout his career and serves as an independent consultant in medical information technology, medical data analytics, and artificial intelligence and machine learning in medicine.
He has authored or co-authored over 50 articles published in peer-reviewed publications, with topics ranging from angiographic coronary artery disease and heart failure to ventricular tachycardia and complex ventricular arrhythmias.
Dr. Mercando and his wife, Lee-Ann, are residents of Bronxville, NY; they have four children.
