John Soldinger Named MAAC Rookie of the WeekJohn Soldinger, baseball, has been named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Rookie of the Week. Soldinger tossed his second complete game of the season in a 7-1 victory over Iona to earn the honor.
Eight Jaspers Named to MAAC Men's Golf All-Academic TeamEight Manhattan College golfers were among 24 athletes to comprise the 2010 MAAC Men's Golf All-Academic Teams, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, student-athletes must complete two semesters at their institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale. Manhattan College led all schools with eight student-athletes named to the teams. Manhattan's honorees were: Anthony DeMartino, Anthony Dinelli, Robert Kehoe, Nick LaBanca, Tom Romano, Robert Thompson, Michael Villarosa and Jonathan Wilson.
Sternberg Selected To Play in North-South All-Star GameSenior, Steve Sternberg, lacrosse, has been chosen to play in the 2010 Lax World/USILA North-South All-Star Game. Sternberg was a member of the North team in the game held on May 28 at Goucher College in Baltimore. Sternberg earned First Team All-MAAC honors this season after leading the Jaspers to their third consecutive MAAC Tournament berth. A team captain, he placed third on the squad with 34 ground balls and second with 19 caused turnovers. Sternberg was also named to the MAAC All-Academic Team for the third consecutive year.
Kaitlin Rodriguez Featured on Kappa Delta Pi Web siteSenior Kaitlin Rodriguez, softball, is currently being featured on the Web site of Kappa Delta Pi, the international education honor society, in the Kudos to You! section, which showcases successes, accomplishments and individual experiences of Kappa Delta Pi members. Rodriguez was recognized for her recent selection as Manhattan's Outstanding Physical Education Major of the Year by the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NAPSE). Jaci Rahey Selected First Team All-Northeast RegionJunior Jaci Rahey, softball, has been selected First Team All-Northeast Region by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). Rahey was selected as the utility player (non-pitcher) by NFCA member coaches in the region, and she is now eligible to be chosen to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America teams. Rahey led Manhattan to a 25-23-1 record and its second straight appearance in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Tournament this season. She was named First Team All-MAAC after leading the Lady Jaspers in batting average (.409), home runs (10), RBIs (58), hits (56), doubles (12), total bases (98), walks (25), slugging percentage (.715) and on-base percentage (.494). Rahey also hit a remarkable .512 in MAAC games. Her RBI total led the MAAC and was the second-highest single-season RBI mark in program history. She also became just the second player in program history to record double-digit home runs in a single season. A total of 256 players from 116 different schools comprise this season's 10 all-region first and second teams, and Rahey was the only MAAC player selected. Each all-region player, as well as all conference players and pitchers of the year not already selected, is eligible for All-America consideration. The three NFCA Division I All-American squads will be announced on June 2.
