John Soldinger Named MAAC Rookie of the Week

John Soldinger, baseball, has been named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Rookie of the Week. Soldinger tossed his second complete game of the season in a 7-1 victory over Iona to earn the honor.
Soldinger retired 12 of the first 13 batters he faced, as he gave up just one run and four hits to pick up his fourth straight win.  He struck out five and walked only one, lowering his team-leading ERA to 1.72.  Soldinger leads Manhattan with seven saves to go along with five victories. This marks the third time this season that Soldinger has been honored by the MAAC.  He previously earned Rookie of the Week honors on March 22, and he was named MAAC Pitcher of the week on March 2.

Jaci Rahey Selected First Team All-Northeast Region

Junior Jaci Rahey, softball, has been selected First Team All-Northeast Region by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).  Rahey was selected as the utility player (non-pitcher) by NFCA member coaches in the region, and she is now eligible to be chosen to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America teams. Rahey led Manhattan to a 25-23-1 record and its second straight appearance in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Tournament this season.  She was named First Team All-MAAC after leading the Lady Jaspers in batting average (.409), home runs (10), RBIs (58), hits (56), doubles (12), total bases (98), walks (25), slugging percentage (.715) and on-base percentage (.494).  Rahey also hit a remarkable .512 in MAAC games.  Her RBI total led the MAAC and was the second-highest single-season RBI mark in program history.  She also became just the second player in program history to record double-digit home runs in a single season. A total of 256 players from 116 different schools comprise this season's 10 all-region first and second teams, and Rahey was the only MAAC player selected.  Each all-region player, as well as all conference players and pitchers of the year not already selected, is eligible for All-America consideration.  The three NFCA Division I All-American squads will be announced on June 2.
