Dr. O’Donnell Discusses The Good News in Catholic Higher Education at
ACCU Conference

Brennan O’Donnell, Ph.D., president of Manhattan College, was invited by the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities (ACCU) to co-present with Sister Janet Eisner, S.N.D., president of Emmanuel College, on the good news in Catholic higher education at the 2011 annual meeting, Catholic Higher Education: Carrying on God’s Noiseless Work. The event was held in downtown Washington, D.C., from Jan. 28-31.

The Good News of Catholic Higher Education presentation was the concluding session at the meeting and was developed to convey a message of hope to the attendees that Catholic higher education, despite many challenges, is stronger than ever in the United States. Both presidents offered their own unique background and experience with O’Donnell as a fairly new lay president and Sr. Eisner’s more than 30 years with Emmanuel College. O’Donnell and Sr. Eisner decided to focus their joint presentation on Catholic higher education during the 1980s, 1990s and the turn of the century up to today.

The ACCU’s annual meeting helps the organization to further expand its reach and purpose by promoting and strengthening the mission and character of Catholic higher education in the United States.
