Junior named Physical Education Major of the Year

Kaitlin Rodriguez, a junior in the School of Education and resident of Warwick, NY, was recently honored as the Outstanding Physical Education Major of the Year from Manhattan College by the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE).  NASPE, which has been setting the standard for the profession for over 31 years, is the largest of the five national associations of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation & Dance (AAHPERD).

During her years at Manhattan, Rodriguez has been a member of the varsity softball team, playing in the outfield. In the 2009 season, she played in 24 games, starting 13. Named to the MAAC All-Academic team, she played the 2007 season as a member of the undefeated SUNY Cortland Red Dragons.  While in High School, Rodriguez received the Warwick Valley High School’s Coaches Award for sportsmanship and leadership.

At Manhattan, she was selected to attend the AAHPERD Student Leadership Conference at Camp Letts, MD. She also presented “Big City Big Classrooms: Cardio Kickboxing” at the NYS Annual Convention and the Southeastern Zone Election Day Conference and was named NYS AHPERD’s Future Professionals Section President- Elect. Rodiguez is an active member of Kappa Delta Pi (teacher education) and Phi Epsilon Kappa (physical education) honor societies. To learn more visit www.naspeinfo.org.
