College Presents Human Rights Painting Exhibit

A selection of paintings by artist Tom Block will go on display on Feb. 6 in the fifth floor lobby and Alumni Room of Manhattan College's O'Malley Library. The Human Rights Painting Project exhibit, sponsored by the Manhattan College archives, will run until May 2. It will open with a reception in the Alumni Room from 4:30-8:00 p.m. on Feb. 6. During the reception, Block will deliver an illustrated lecture Artist as Shaman in an Age of Uncertainty. Read

 

Black History Month Program Features NY1 Political Reporter

In celebration of Black History Month, Manhattan College will host a lunchtime lecture and book signing by NY1 News political reporter Dominic Carter on Wednesday, Feb. 13 in Smith Auditorium. The event is open to the entire Manhattan College community. A fixture at NY1 since the news channel launched in 1992, Carter published No Momma's Boy in 2007, a book that chronicles his triumphant struggle to overcome his mother's mental illness while growing up in a Bronx housing project. Aquinas Lecture Will Explore European Culture and Philosophy

Richard Kearney, the Charles B. Seelig chair of philosophy at Boston College, will deliver the 2008 Aquinas Lecture on Friday, Feb. 15 at 12:00 p.m. in the Alumni Room of O'Malley Library. The program The Narrative Imagination is free and open to the public. Kearney is the author of more than 20 books on European philosophy and literature. His most recent work in philosophy comprises the trilogy Philosophy at the Limit . Read

 

Lasallian Thursday

Dr. Corine Fitzpatrick, director of the graduate education programs in counseling, will speak during the Feb. 28 Lasallian Thursday luncheon at 12:20 p.m. in the Murray Room of Thomas Hall. Fitzpatrick will discuss her “passion,” the place where head and heart come together for individuals who serve as both scholar and educator. College To Host Undergraduate Mathematics Conference

Manhattan College will host the third annual Spuyten Duyvil Undergraduate Mathematics Conference on Saturday, April 5. The goal of the conference is to offer undergraduates the opportunity to attend and actively participate in a professional meeting while encouraging mathematical conversation among undergraduates. In the past two years, the conference has drawn participants from colleges throughout the tri-state area, New England and Pennsylvania. This year's keynote address will be delivered by Carl Pomerance, professor of mathematics at Dartmouth College .
