Manhattan College “Thinks Pink” for Women's Basketball Contest on ESPNU

The Manhattan College Athletic Department will host its annual “Think Pink” celebration on Feb. 15 during its nationally televised women's basketball contest with Iona . Fans are encouraged to wear pink in support of breast cancer awareness. The Jaspers are also aiming for a record setting crowd as part of the NCAA's “Pack the House” initiative. The contest kicks off a doubleheader with the Manhattan men and will air on ESPNU. Tip off is slated for 5:30 p.m. at Draddy Gymnasium.

Tickets to this highly anticipated event can be purchased the day of the game at the Manhattan College box office. Admission is set at $5 for adults and children under 18 get in free. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Young Survival Coalition. Additionally, the first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a commemorative Manhattan women's basketball t-shirt.

Jasper fans can support the effort by donating prizes to attract more fans to this event, sponsor the cause by making a monetary donation per attendee, or simply come out to the game and be a part of the crowd.

“Think Pink” was created by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) to help raise breast cancer awareness. The “Think Pink” initiative has grown from approximately 120 institutions participating during the 2007 campaign to over 650 in 2008.

“Pack the House” is a national competition set forth by the NCAA for its member schools to compete with conference rivals to set attendance records at women's basketball contests. Winning institutions receive great prizes for their superb efforts.

The Young Survival Coalition (YSC) is the only international, non-profit network of breast cancer survivors and supporters dedicated to the concerns and issues that are unique to young women and breast cancer. Through action, advocacy and awareness, the YSC seeks to educate the medical, research, breast cancer and legislative communities and to persuade them to address breast cancer in women 40 and under.
