Dr. Salwa Ammar Named Next Dean of Business

Dr. Salwa Ammar has been named the next dean of Manhattan College’s school of business, effective July 1. Ammar will replace Dr. James Suarez, who will step down from his position after 18 years. Since 2006, Ammar has served as dean of LeMoyne College’s school of management. During that time, she successfully led the school’s initial accreditation by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Ammar has been a highly-regarded teacher at LeMoyne, where she earned tenure and promotions to associate and full professor. She served as director of the management science program and associate director and director of the M.B.A. program. Read.

 

Faculty and Staff Accomplishments

Dr. Bruce Liby, associate professor of physics and chair of the physics department, and Ryan Scholl ’09 authored the paper “Using a Michelson Interferometer to Measure Coefficient of Thermal Expansion of Copper,” which appeared in the May 2009 issue of The Physics Teacher, a publication of the American Association of Physics Teachers. Dr. Nicholas De Lillo, professor of mathematics and computer science, completed the paper “Simulations of Finite-State Automata Using Java 6.0. Part 3: Generalizations.” It was accepted for publication in the June 2009 issue of the Technical Report Series of the Graduate School of Computer Science and Information Technology, an official publication of the Ivan G. Seidenberg School of Computer Science and Information Services at Pace University. Part one of the paper was published in November 2008, and part two appeared in the March 2009 issue.

In addition, De Lillo delivered the invited lecture Simulation of Deterministic Finite-State Automata Using Java 6.0 at the Computer Science Seminar at Iona College on April 16.

Dr. Claudia Setzer, professor and chair of the religious studies department, gave the closing address at the conference Resurrection and the Gospel of Matthew at Tilburg University in the Netherlands in April.

Welcome New Employees

Manhattan College Milestones

Congratulations to several full-time and part-time members of the College community who have celebrated a recent service anniversary. Jose Lopez of residence life marks his 30th anniversary at Manhattan College in November.
