John Olenowski Named Women’s Basketball Coach

Manhattan College has named John Olenowski the seventh head women’s basketball coach in program history. He comes to Riverdale most recently from Long Island University, where he served as an assistant coach under Gail Striegler last season. Prior to his stint at LIU, Olenowski returned to collegiate coaching as an assistant at Saint Peter’s for the 2007-08 season. He enjoyed tremendous success during his 14 years (1979-82, 1995-2006) as head coach of the varsity girls’ basketball program at Morris Catholic High School in Denville, N.J., leading the team to a 330-89 record, including 10 Colonial Hills Conference Championships, six Morris County Championships, seven New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) Sectional Championships and three NJSIAA State Championships. Megan Tice ’11 Sets New Women’s High Jump School Record

Manhattan College’s Megan Tice ’11 set a school record in the women’s high jump on April 18 at the Larry Ellis Invitational meet at Princeton University with a 1.75m mark that qualified her for the NCAA Regional Outdoor Championships. Also setting an NCAA qualifying mark at the meet was Albert Johnson III ’12 with a second-place finish in the men’s long jump in 7.39m. Read.

Darryl Crawford ’10 and Chris Smith ’11 Earn All-Metropolitan Basketball Honors

Manhattan College guard Darryl Crawford ’10 was selected to the All-Metropolitan Division I Men’s Basketball Second Team and sophomore guard Chris Smith ’11 was named to the Third Team. The announcement was made on April 15 at the 76th Annual MET Basketball Writers Association Awards Banquet at Giants Stadium Club in East Rutherford, N.J. The duo helped lead the Jaspers to a fourth-place MAAC finish in 2008-09. Crawford averaged 14.4 points and 4.4 rebounds, while Smith added 13.4 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. Read.

 

Chrissy Gutenberger ’12 Named MAAC Women’s Lacrosse Rookie of the Year

Manhattan College’s Chrissy Gutenberger ’12 was named the MAAC Women’s Lacrosse Rookie of the Year and also named to the All-MAAC First Team on April 23.  Additionally, teammates Keri Morrison ’10, Caralyn Hickey ’10 and Breana Leonard ’12 were named to the All-MAAC Second Team. Read.
