Manhattan Launches Tournées French Film Festival

On Monday, March 28, Manhattan will launch the first annual Tournées French Film Festival, which will run until Wednesday, April 6 and is sponsored by the department of modern languages and literatures, communication, English, performing arts and the school of arts.

The film festival’s theme is Crossing Borders and the festival will open on March 28 with Two Days in Paris by Julie Delpy at 7:00 p.m. in the Rodriguez Room (Miguel Hall 311). The additional films will play at the same time and location and they include: Tuesday, March 29, Welcome by director Philippe Lioret; Wednesday, March 30, 35 Rhum by director Claire Denis; Monday, April 4, Bamako by director Abderrahmane Sissako; and concludes Wednesday, April 6, with Entre Les Murs by director Laurent Cantet.

Faculty on the organizing committee will introduce the films and conduct a discussion after each showing. The organizing committee consists of faculty from a variety of disciplines at Manhattan: Samira Hassa (French), Evelyn Scaramella (Spanish), Meg Toth (English) and Nonie Wanger (French).

Tournées is a program of FACE, the French American Cultural Exchange, and it is made possible with the generous support of the cultural services of the French Embassy and the French Ministry of Culture (CNC). Additional sponsors of the FACE program are the Florence Gould Foundation, the Grand Marnier Foundation, Highbrow Entertainment, agnès b and the Fonds Culturel Franco-Américain.
