Hoops Squads Embark on Regular Season’s Final Month

Basketball

With the MAAC Tournament getting underway in exactly one month, the Manhattan College men’s and women’s basketball teams enter the regular season’s final month with some key games on the horizon. Both squads welcome archrival Iona to Draddy Gym on Monday, Feb. 9. The men’s squad was recently scheduled to meet William & Mary in ESPNU’s BracketBuster match-up on Feb. 21 in Williamsburg, Va. Aliann Pompey ’04 Runs World’s Fastest Indoor 400 Meters at New Balance Meet

Manhattan College graduate Aliann Pompey ’04 cruised to a 51.85-second victory in the indoor 400-meter race at the 14th New Balance Games at New York’s Armory’s Track and Field Center on Jan. 24. The three-time Olympian from Guyana torched the field on her home turf, as she trains at the Armory with Joe Ryan, her coach in college and still the current Manhattan College assistant track and field coach. Pompey, a former NCAA indoor champion, was an Olympic semifinalist in the 400 meters in Beijing last year.

 

 

 

Baseball Squad Inks Four During Early Signing Period

Manhattan head baseball coach Kevin Leighton announced the receipt of four National Letters of Intent during the NCAA’s early signing period. High school seniors Nick Camastro (LaGrangeville, N.Y./Arlington), a 5-foot-11-inch shortstop, Mike Gonzalez (Miami, Fla./Christopher Columbus), a 5-foot-10-inch pitcher,  Kyle Murphy (Waterbury, Conn./Holy Cross), a 6-foot-3-inch shortstop, and John Soldinger (Bayshore, N.Y./Bayshore), a 6-foot-2-inch pitcher, confirmed their decision to attend Manhattan College beginning next fall. Manhattan Athletics Expands JasperVision Platform

The Manhattan College athletic department has expanded JasperVision, its online video platform, for the 2008-09 academic year. Read. All men’s and women’s basketball games, along with select fall and spring home athletic contests, will stream live exclusively at GoJaspers.com. JasperVision is the only online destination for live and on-demand streaming video for Manhattan College patrons.
