Become Your Class RepresentativeReunion Weekend 2011 will be held on Friday, June 3 to Sunday, June 5, 2011. Manhattan College welcomes home our alumni who return to campus to celebrate the 142nd Alumni Reunion Weekend. Classes ending in either a 6 or 1 will have special receptions planned for them. Alumni Men’s RetreatThis year is the 19th anniversary of the annual reality retreat at the Passionist Spiritual Center (5801 Palisade Avenue, Riverdale, N.Y.), which will be held Friday-Sunday, Sept. 24-26, 2010. The retreat spans 36 hours from 6 p.m. on Friday until noon on Sunday. The founding purpose of these retreats is to bring together alumni and friends of the College for 36 hours to listen to gifted speakers and hear presentations based on this year’s theme of “The Breath of God.” For more information and registration information, click here or e-mail Ed McEneney ‘59 at ed@manhattancollegeretreat.info.
Sippin’ By The RiverJoin other Jaspers at the 16th annual Sippin’ By The River in Philadelphia, Pa., which will take place on Sunday, Oct. 3 at the Festival Pier at Penn's Landing (located at Columbus Boulevard and Spring Garden Street). The event runs from 1:00-5:00 p.m. and benefits the Philadelphia/Delaware Valley Chapter of the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America. Enjoy food from local restaurants, cooking demonstrations (with free samples) and live entertainment. Sample unique beer & wine (over 21, bring ID), enjoy gourmet cigars and watch on huge monitors as the Eagles take on the Washington Redskins. Jaspers Night at McFadden’sOn Thursday, Sept. 23 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Jaspers will gather simultaneously at McFadden’s bars in five locations to network, reconnect and enjoy an evening of great company. Redeo Alma MaterCome together with other young alumni to share work and life experiences since leaving college this fall. The aim for this group is to develop organically, meeting several times a semester at Cornerstone, Miguel Hall from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The first session will take place on Thursday, Sept. 30. Refreshments will be provided. This program is sponsored by campus ministry and alumni relations. Soccer Alumni GamesThe Manhattan College men’s soccer team will be holding an alumni game on Saturday, Sept. 25 at Gaelic Park from 2:00-4:00 p.m. After the game, players, parents and alumni will gather for a picnic. Lacrosse Annual Alumni GamesThe Manhattan College men’s and women’s lacrosse teams have announced that their annual alumni games will both take place on Saturday, Oct. 2 at Gaelic Park. This marks the second straight year in which both lacrosse programs are hosting an alumni game on the same afternoon. St. Thomas More Law Society Pre-Law Advisory Council ReceptionManhattan College alumni who have entered the law profession are asked to lend their time and talent to mentor current students as they consider a career in law. This fall will feature a presentation by the Honorable John K. McGuirk, New York state supreme court justice for Orange County. The event will take place on Monday, Oct. 25 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Alumni Room, O’Malley Library (First Floor). Basketball Season PreviewThe alumni relations office invites you to come and greet Manhattan College’s men’s and women’s coaches and hear about the upcoming 2010-11 season on Thursday, Oct. 28 at 6:30 p.m. in the Faculty Dining Room, Thomas Hall, 4th Floor. Save the Date for Career Fair ’10The College’s annual Career Fair will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 20 from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. in Draddy Gymnasium. The career fair gives attendees a chance to meet with potential employers and is a terrific networking opportunity to reconnect with other Manhattan College alumni, many of whom act as company representatives. Alumni Open House Brunch for Prospective StudentsAlumni are welcome to bring college-bound high school and transfer students to a complimentary brunch hosted by the Alumni Society on Sunday, Oct. 24. Mass will precede the event at 9:30 a.m. in the Chapel of De La Salle and His Brothers and brunch will be in Dante’s Den (Thomas Hall) at 10:30 a.m. Advance reservations are required. The open house is an opportunity for prospective students to visit campus and meet representatives from all areas of the College.
Hold the Date! New York City Club ReceptionOn Thursday, Nov. 4, join us for a panel discussion of Manhattan College engineers who are currently working on the design and implementation of the New York City Second Avenue Subway. The event, co-chaired by Bill Chandler ’70 and Nancy Maksomski ’98, will be held at Con Ed’s Auditorium at 4 Irving Place from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to invite alumni colleagues and enjoy a social networking atmosphere.
