Manhattan College Named one of America’s Best Colleges by
U.S. News & World Report

U.S. News & World Report has named Manhattan College the No. 17 regional university in the North for the second year in a row in its annual America’s Best Colleges survey. In addition, Manhattan College’s chemical engineering program was selected as the fifth best in the nation, and the school of engineering received an overall ranking and tied for 38 out of 190 schools. Among all of the schools surveyed in the regional universities category, Manhattan College was also listed as one of the top-ranked schools for economic diversity. To read more, click here.

 

College Appoints New Dean of Students

Michael Carey, Psy.D., former director of counseling and health services, has been named dean of students at Manhattan College. In his new role, Carey serves as the chief judiciary officer for the campus and supervises the areas of residence life and student development. To read more, click here.

 


New MBA Program to Launch in Fall 2011 for Qualified Manhattan Students

Beginning in the fall semester of 2011, Manhattan College’s school of business will offer a graduate M.B.A. program. The State Education Department within the University of the State of New York approved the M.B.A. program on Aug. 19, 2010, and the new degree will consist of 36 credits. Undergraduate students now have the opportunity to complete both a bachelor's degree and an M.B.A. in five years in business administration and accounting, which will also meet the state’s educational requirements for the CPA (Certified Public Accountancy) license. Manhattan Professor Visits the White House Twice to Celebrate Athletics

Shawn Ladda, Ed.M. and Ed.D., physical education and human performance professor at Manhattan College, attended the launch of the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition on June 23 hosted by first lady Michelle Obama. As part of Ladda’s role as president of the National Association for Girls and Women in Sport (NAGWS), she was invited to attend the event along with current and former professional athletes. In addition, Ladda was asked back one week later to bring a group of eight Northeast-area girls’ soccer players to the White House to meet President Barack Obama. Ladda and the group’s invite was part of the championship celebration of the New Jersey-based Sky Blue FC, which won the inaugural Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) title in 2009.

Graduate Students from the School Building Leadership Program
May Qualify for New Grant

In July, the College’s school building leadership graduate program received final approval on a grant for $1,250,000 from the New York City Department of Education (NYCDOE) Bureau of Nonpublic School Reimbursable Services (BNPS). Starting this fall, new and existing school building leadership students meeting the grant guidelines and approved for enrollment by the BNPS will receive free tuition. The total funds will be dispensed annually during five years. The grant is intended for nonpublic school principals and teachers who work in one of the five New York City boroughs seeking to advance their leadership skills and/or acquire New York State certification. Taioseach Visits Gaelic Park

President O’Donnell pictured with Taioseach Brian Cowen, the prime minister of Ireland, during a visit to Gaelic Park to meet and play Gaelic football with campers. O’Donnell presented Cowen with a Manhattan College gift package to welcome the prime minister to the campus.
