Manhattan Honors Valero CEO at De La Salle Medal Dinner

De La Salle DinnerManhattan College presented Bill Klesse, chairman of the board, CEO and president of Valero Energy Corporation, with the De La Salle Medal at the College’s annual

fundraising dinner on Jan. 19 at the Pierre Hotel in New York City.

Manhattan NAE Engineer Alumnus Passes Away

Charles O'Melia, Ph.D., an environmental engineering professor at the Johns Hopkins University and a leading water treatment researcher, passed away on Dec. 16. As a 1955 bachelor’s in civil engineering graduate of Manhattan College and generous donor to the College, O’Melia’s dedication and commitment to the field of engineering is commemorated with a plaque in Manhattan’s William J. Scala Academy room along with 16 other distinguished engineering alumni elected to the National Academy of Engineering (NAE).

Kenneth Orce Elected to Board of Trustees

Kenneth W. Orce
Kenneth W. Orce ’65, senior counsel at Cahill Gordon & Reindel, LLP, and an Edgemont, N.Y., resident, has recently been elected to Manhattan College’s board of trustees. Orce, a successful and experienced corporate and securities partner for more than 35 years at Cahill Gordon & Reindel, represents a wide range of leading domestic and foreign entities including insurance, financial service and investment companies.

Manhattan Names New Director of Counseling and Health Services

Terence P. Hannigan
Manhattan College is pleased to announce that Terence P. Hannigan, Ph.D., ABPP, has been named the new director of counseling and health services effective immediately.

“Manhattan is very fortunate to have successfully recruited such an experienced new director of counseling and health services," said Richard Satterlee, Ph.D., vice president for student life at Manhattan College.

Manhattan College’s DEP Grant Listed in NYC Green Infrastructure Plan

The City of New York released a NYC Green Infrastructure Plan in September presenting alternative approaches to improving water quality integrating green infrastructure. The plan cited Manhattan College’s recent New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) grant.

Sophia Hirakis ’11 Receives Biomedical Grant

Sophia Hirakis, a senior and biochemistry major at Manhattan, was honored as a 2010 Leonidas Lantzounis Research Grant winner at the Hellenic Medical Society of New York’s 74th Annual Scholarship gala, which was held in December.
